Gamma Ray Detectors
The KETEK Gamma Ray Detectors are large area VITUS SDDs which are optically coupled to a scintillator. A scintillator is a material that converts energy lost by ionizing radiation into pulses of light. Each scintillation light pulse will generate a small charge pulse in the SDD which can be measured with a charge sensitive preamplifier.
The hexagonal shape of the SDDs makes it possible to built arrays of different configurations.
As a result a totally new generation of gamma ray detectors with the name
"GAMMA-VITUS" has become available.
